Bentstix Hockey is the world’s leading Gay and Lesbian Field Hockey Club winning gold medals at the 2009 World Outgames and 2010 Gay Games.

Bentstix was established in 1996 during the Sydney Mardi Gras Festival as a social network of like-minded players.  The club has since grown to become the world’s largest and most successful G&L hockey club, with over 70 active members consisting of men and women, gay, straight, lesbian and anywhere in between.

In addition to competing in international Gay and Lesbian sporting events, Bentstix enters teams in a variety of local competitions throughout each year.  In 2010, the 4.1 Men’s Team reached the semi-finals of the Sydney Hockey Association Winter Competition.

Bentstix currently has over 60 active players of varying skill levels consisting of men and women, gay, straight, and lesbian and anywhere in between.

In February each year Bentstix hosts the annual Pink Hockey Tournament in Sydney, a one-day round-robin event intended to promote hockey, sportsmanship and fun and is open to all players.

Bentstix participants annually in the Sydney Mardi Gras Festival with a Fair Day stall and parade entry to promote our sport, club and sponsors within the community.

Our Mission

We are dedicated to continually building a diverse, competitive and friendly environment which welcomes all new members wishing to play hockey, get fit and make new friends.  Specifically, ou key focus areas are:

• Providing GLBT community members the opportunity to learn and play a team sport and make new friends while improving their fitness and self-esteem.


• Promoting sport and participation in the GLBT community and in turn promoting acceptance of homosexuality within the broader community.


• Promoting gay and lesbian field hockey both locally and internationally in an effort to build participation worldwide.
