International Teams

The club was established in February 1996 and became the first Gay and Lesbian Field Hockey Club in the world. In the late 90′s the club was mainly active in the summer when we played in a mixed (male and female) field hockey competition at Little Bay as part of the University of NSW competition. In 2002, Bentstix became very active during the Sydney Gay Games and the club played a key role in field hockey being included in the program for the first time. Ten teams participated in the 2002 Sydney Gay Games from around the world.

After the success of the Games, Bentstix and “Initowinit” from Holland formed the Gay and Lesbian International Field Hockey Federation. The Federation’s aim was to bring together gay and lesbian hockey players from around the world. Since then there have been regular World Pink Hockey tournaments at the Euro Games annually starting in Utrecht, Holland in 2005, as well as at the 2nd World Outgames in Copenhagen in 2009 and the Gay Games in Cologne in 2010. In the club’s own Asia Pacific region, Pink Hockey tournaments were held at the Melbourne Outgames in 2008 and the Wellington Outgames in 2011.
