New Name, Constitution and Executive Committee

The members of Bentstix Hockey Club unanimously voted to change the name of the club from “Bentstix Sydney Gay and Lesbian Hockey Club Incorporated” to “Bentstix Hockey Club Incorporated” at the Annual General Meeting on Saturday. Bentstix Hockey Club was established by a group of gay men in 1996 as a social club of like-minded players. They wanted to build a hockey club for both men and women, and so the Bentstix Sydney Gay and Lesbian Hockey Club was born.

Since that time Bentstix has grown and the club welcomes players no matter their sexual identity while remaining a safe, supportive environment for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people to play hockey. The new name is designed to be more inclusive while honouring the history of the club and its continuing objectives.

New Executive Committee appointments were also made at the AGM. Bentstix is pleased to announce that the new President of Bentstix Hockey Club is Brian Mullins, Sally Whitney returns to the Executive Committee in the role of Vice-President, Kara Seymour returns to the Executive Committee for a further term in the dual roles of Women’s Secretary and Public Officer, Matt Leslie will take on the new role of Men’s Secretary, Don Gregorio joins the Executive Committee as Financial Controller and Lindsay Cooper continues in his long-standing role as Treasurer (Accounts).

Retiring from the Executive Committee is out-going President Emma Rogers and out-going Co-Treasurer Brian Prenderville. Both Emma and Brian made a valuable contribution to the club over the past year and will be very missed on the Executive Committee.

At the AGM the members of Bentstix Hockey Club also adopted a new Constitution, a Member Protection Policy, Codes of Behaviour and Administration Policies.
