New President and Secretary

Bentstix would like to welcome Anthony Hartley and Nathan Clunas into the executive as voted at the sign on day.  We would also like to take the time to thank the outgoing President, Drew Keenan and Secretary, Charles Lowe and Suzi Thompson our women's officer for their efforts in forwarding the Bentstix cause.  It has been much appreciated, thank you.

Friday March 2, 2012 - Lock that date in!

As part of the Mardi Gras Festivities Bentstix Hockey Club invites one and all to come play some hockey in a relaxed gay and lesbian friendly environment.  

We encourage all levels of players from beginners to experienced to form teams of 7 or more players and challenge others to 7 a-side hockey half field games at Kyeemagh RSL/Hockey Centre.

At 6pm we will be holding a feature mixed, full field hockey game between Bentstix and a barbarian team made up of Parkville/NZ and anyone else keen on joining in.

  • Friday March 2, 2012, 12:00 - 18:00
Where
Costs
  • Members $35
  • Non-members $45
  • New Mardi Gras Members $40
Registration
  • You can register as a team or individual using the Pink Hockey Registration Form
  • If registering as an individual  and you will be assigned to a team by the organisers.
  • Payment must be made within 48 hours of registering.
Rules

Normal rules of field hockey apply and they can be downloaded from here and exceptions are below:
  • 7 players per side (plus maximum 2 reserves)
  • Male, female or mixed teams
  • 1/2 field game with small goal but no designated goalie or kicking back. Goals can only be scored once the ball has gone over the half-way line.
  • 2 x 20 minute halves
  • No hitting or lifting
Format
  • Round robin
  • 4+ teams, randomly split into two pools. Each pool plays every other team and receives 3 points for a win and 1 point for a draw.  
  • The highest scoring team from each group will play for 1st and 2nd place and the second highest team will play for 3rd and 4th place. 
What to bring
  • Sunscreen
  • Shin pads
  • Mouth guard
  • Non-slip shoes
  • Hockey stick (If you don't have one, note this on the registration form and we'll do our best to ensure you can loan one on the day)
Other
  • Drinks and BBQ lunch available
  • Transport is available to and from the venue.  Please complete this form to indicate your transport needs.

Men's Winter Hockey Competition

Our men's team began the year off with a win at the 2011 Asia-Pacific OUTgames in Wellington New Zealand and we continued on our winning ways in the SHA Winter 2011 Competition.  We made it to the finals but unluckily we missed out on the big one.  

This year is the year to make amends and try go all the way.  

We accept all levels from beginners, to the more experienced player.  Ultimately its about having fun, learning new skills and meeting new people.
Season begins April and runs until early September.

Women's Winter Hockey Season

Women's winter hockey will be an added dimension to the Bentstix Hockey Club in 2012.  In the past Bentstix have had Men's outdoor teams, now the women are getting involved as well.
Having experienced success on the international gay and lesbian hockey front, it is now time to take on the locals at their own game.  Come join us in our inaugural year in the Eastern Districts Women's Hockey Association, Division 4 competition.
We accept all levels from beginners, to the more experienced player.  Ultimately its about having fun, learning new skills and meeting new people.
Season begins April 14/15 and runs until early September.

Men's Indoor Hockey @ Ryde Aquatic Centre

Men's indoor hockey season at Ryde Aquatic Centre is about to begin February 8, 2012.  Bentstix has entered a team into the Men's C Grade competition, with our first match being against Development 2 at 7pm.  Season runs each Wednesday evening until April 11, 2012.

Sydney Park, St Peters

When:
Saturday October 22, 2011

Where:
Sydney Park, St Peters (will update on where specifically we will hold it)

Time:
1330 to around 1800

Details:
*BYO alcohol
*Sydney City Council have it designated as a dog park, so feel free to bring your four legged family members along for a day out.
*There will be casual games of touch, soccer, minkey, feel free to bring along a stick or sporting equipment. I will have hockey balls and cones.
*There will be cans of soft drink available for $1, sausage/steak sandwiches, salads and sauces available prices TBC.
~ Please advise if there are any dietary requirements ie. Vegetarian so we may cater for this as best as we can.
*Bring along chairs and/or rugs and mates, open event to those who play, want to play or love the game of hockey..

Extra info about the park:
The City of Sydney's biggest park is celebrating its 21st birthday this year.
Recent works completed include the new All Abilities Playground, revitalisation of the Village Green with new toilet and kiosk facilities

St. George Randwick Summer Hockey Competition 2011

Kyeemagh Hockey Centre
Tancred Avenue (off Mutch Avenue)

When does it start?: Starts on Tuesday 11th October,2011
When does it finish?: Runs for 9 weeks and finishes on 13th December, 2011.
What time are the games?: Game times are 7pm, 7.50pm and 8.40pm. 20 minute halves
How much does it cost?: Cost $50 per team per week
What are the rules?:
7 a side Ladies and men’s mixed competition on half field
Minimum of 2 ladies required to be playing on the field
Up to 10 Players per team
No goalkeeper / No hitting
No experience necessary **
Must be at least 15 or turning this year 15 to play

Any players who weren't registered with Hockey NSW will need to pay a $40 insurance fee. 

If you have not registered with Bentstix, you will be required to pay the Bentstix membership fee which covers insurance for you to be able to play summer hockey.   There is a once off fee of $5, and $30 annual fee to cover Hockey NSW insurance.

Please if you would like to play contact me by 28 September.  Also can you indicate whether you want to play as a mixed team or women's team and on which day/s.

Briars' Summer Hockey Competition 2011

Okay we finally have details!!!

Summer Competition 
Mixed Hockey at Briar's Cintra Park Hockey Complex 
Queens Rd Concord, with carpark entry in Loftus St

When does it start?: Starts on Wednesday 12th October,2011 or Thursday 13th October, 2011
When does it finish?: 
What time are the games?: Game times are 630pm, 730pm, 830pm. 
How much does it cost?: Team fee for the competition is $550
Competition Standard: Wednesday will be of a good standard and Thursdays will be for beginners and social players.

What are the rules?: 7-a-side, team may have up to 10 players registered (up to 3 on the bench for each match)
No goalkeeper / No hitting
Any players who weren't registered with Hockey NSW will need to pay a $40 insurance fee.

Nominations are open for 2012 Bentstix Executive positions!!! 

Naturally you can make nominations at the AGM, we'll make nomination forms in advance for those of you unable to attend or if you wish to make a nomination before the meeting. They should be available this weekend.
