Unofficial Bentstix Day 2014

The unofficial Bentstix Hockey Club Day was capped by rainbows yesterday (not kidding – we followed a rainbow on the way to the first game at 9am and another glorious rainbow on the way home from the last game when it finished at 5pm). What an amazing Bentstix day

But it was a tough slog out on the fields on the first day of Winter! Won’t let that dampen our smiles… Go Stix!!

The Women’s 3’s took to Kyeemagh hockey pitch at 9am and lined up for the first of four Bentstix Hockey Club matches for the day. They made a strong start to be up 2-0, before UNSW clawed their way back to level. Great energy, impressive team to watch. Final score on the day … 2-2 Draw.

The Women’s 4’s had their turn against UNSW next and looked dangerous before taking a 1-0 lead. They held on almost to the very end, including saving a penalty shot, but just 30 seconds shy of the final bell UNSW snuck one through. Final score on the day … 1-1 Draw.

[insert lunch break here, tasty chicken Schnitzel and a cupcake birthday celebration with State of Origin dare for entertainment]

After lunch over in Concord the Men’s 8’s took to the pitch at Cintra against Ryde Hunters Hill and dominated play before Ryde Hunters Hill got a few fast breaks. Heading into half time the boys were down 3 nil but Stix never give up… They launched their counter attack, registering their 3rd goal with seconds to spare. Fantastic, supportive team. Final score on the day … 3-3 Draw.

The Men’s 5’s were up next against Briars in a hard-fought and very even battle. Great dynamic play, excellent use of the width and strong triangles saw the ball taken up the wings and skilfully navigated through the middle. Scores were locked a 0-0 most of the game before Briars got a couple of lucky breaks. Chins up guys – it was a very competitive match and could have gone either way. Final score of the day … 2 – 0 Loss.

A huge thanks to everyone who came to watch. We love your Stix Spirit. Happy (unofficial) Bentstix Hockey Club Day!!
